Esen Karol graduated from Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul and received her master’s degree in communications design from Pratt Institute, NY, where she studied with a Fulbright scholarship.
Her first solo poster exhibition “48 × 68” took place at Pratt Manhattan, where she was a visiting lecturer in spring 2002. She taught typography and publication design at Istanbul Bilgi University, VCD department in 2003–2012. Her posters are in the permanent collection of Museum für Gestaltung, Zurich. Her works had been published in various design magazines such as “How”, “IdN” and “Slanted”. Two of the books, that she has designed for Arter, were voted among the 50 best-designed books of the year in “50 Books | 50 Covers” competitions, organized by Design Observer and AIGA: “The Stones Talk” (2013) and “Through the Looking Glass” (2014).
Currently, she works in her one-person design studio Esen Karol Design Ltd in Istanbul, concentrating on “Manifold”, an electronic journal about design, technology, art and everyday life.
