Richard Strauss (1846-1949) was one of the most important musicians of the 20th century. His operas, including ”Elektra”, ”Salome” and ”Der Rosenkavalier”, are still among the most performed works in the field of classical music. Next to his compositions he has been a master conductor. On the occasion of his 150th birthday the German Government decided to remember him through a special stamp edition. This stamp design won an internal contest and was released in 2014. To reproduce the fine details of the illustration a flexoprinting technology was used to print the stamp in an edition of several million copies.
