Altes Hallenbad is a venue in Feldkirch, Austria located in a former indoor swimming pool. It is known for hosting cultural events of a high calibre and giving some of its “indie underground flair” to any event that takes place there. Because it is just a venue and not an event itself, our task in the branding was to create a logo that doesn’t need to be loud to function. Altes Hallenbad is an enabler and platform for culture, and so the logo should be recognisable in co-branding in a logo list as well as on its own merchandise. The target audience is wide, from teenagers visiting rock concerts to theatre productions for an older age-group.
Our inspiration in the logo were the old swimming lane markers that are still visible in the venue’s concert hall. Markers in a swimming pool lend the swimmer orientation and make it possible to efficiently swim from one end of the pool to the other. Within these lanes, the possibilities of what style or how you swim are endless. So, it fits to the idea of Altes Hallendbad – they provide the platform, the show within this framework is up to you. When possible, the logo is always printed in black (because lane markers are always black), however the background colour can be any light blue paper or medium – just like there is no one colour for water.
