The Norwegian Academy of Music is Norways biggest music academy located in Oslo. The academy offers the country’s highest level of music education.
The 2018 annual report is more than just a documentation of last year’s numbers. It’s a publication that invites the reader behind the scene and lets you get to know the school in an inspiring and personal way.
The annual report’s goal was to show both the positive results and to reveal potential for improvement. With this as a starting point, we got full access to the campus to document the school and it’s closed off rooms and hidden storage spaces, with no possibility of hiding or covering up the mess. These rooms were used as visuals through the report, and as backgrounds for portraits. In this way the images are as honest as the annual report itself.
To challenge the traditional way of displaying infographics, we have physically built and visualised a selection of the graphs with objects and elements found on campus and in closed off rooms. This gives the graphs a visual relevance while telling a story about the school.
The laser cut circle on the front serves as a peephole – an entrance into the school.
The play with shapes on the cover gives the reader a hint of rhythm and music.
The same playfulness is used in the typesetting.
