Arup Annual Report 2017

by OPX
Silver

Arup has been a world leader in in engineering for 70 years. Their ethos – ‘shaping a better world’ – is about creating sustainable and inspiring solutions that genuinely improve people’s lives, and this sits at the heart of the approach to their 2017 Annual Report. It’s written and designed to highlight the value of Arup’s work to the people who actually experience it. The design is inspired by their holistic ‘total engineering’ approach, incorporating different-sized pages and materials, inviting the reader to engage with structure, texture and space in the way Arup’s work does.

The report doesn’t focus on financial performance, but is primarily about showing how the firm is delivering against the six key aims that Sir Ove Arup laid down in his 1970 Key Speech, which still informs the ethos of Arup today. These are: Quality of work, Total architecture, Humane organisation, Straight and honourable dealings, Social usefulness, and Reasonable prosperity. The Annual Report is shared with key clients, and with all staff members.

We’ve shown not only what the firm has done this year but why it really matters. Stories are told from multiple views, not only iconic design or leading edge technical innovation, but also the effect on real people and communities. The design is inspired by their holistic ‘total engineering’ approach, incorporating different-sized pages and materials, inviting the reader to engage with structure, texture and space in the way Arup’s work does.
