Book cover design system for Fagbokforlaget
In order to maintain its position as the preferred brand for educational textbooks in Norway, Fagbokforlaget asked us to help them create a design system to enhance the branding of their textbooks. They were missing a common framework, and the visual expression differed from book to book. An expensive model, without structure and system, which has led to a diluted identity for Fagbokforlaget.
An analysis of Fagbokforlagets product portfolio showed the need for a proper visual clean-up. We wanted to challenge the established category language of textbooks, especially those aimed at young people. A category level characterized by a jumble of “cool” cover photos (not relatable for the students), graffiti fonts, incomprehensible illustrations and smeared Photoshop effects.
The new book covers now lives within a unified visual identity. The concept of modularity brought us a design system to create striking and functional covers. Flexible, scalable and instantly recognizable.
Together with local photographer, Marthe Thu, the covers was filled with honest and real photographs.The new cover design system has already proven massive cost savings, plus great engagement from the target audience.
