Brechtfestival Augsburg 2018

Destruction and Restoration: The design for the »Brechtfestival Augsburg 2018« emerged from the examination of the theme of this year‘s Brechtfestival – egoism vs. solidarity. A visual language has been created that affirms the contrast and connection between egoism and solidarity. Writings and pictures are crumpled, torn, violently broken. Afterwards they are smoothed, fixed, rejoined and restored. Solidarity tries to patch what egoism destroys or is it the other way around?

The layout is in process, is not finished and emphasizes the temporary in the process of creating by a writer like Brecht. This is expressed trough paper and brush. Brecht‘s world, analogous to our time today, is torn and short-lived. This is shown by the graphic handling of the broken and temporarily patched elements that express the split opinions of his and our time and the provocations of Brecht.

The colorworld underlines the „black-and-white thinking“ that prevails in our society and that also Brecht hold against in his pieces.
