Starting a new (book) publishing house in 2015 might seem like a risky venture. However, the initiators of Das Magazin (the largest literary magazine in the Benelux) were adamant to do so. Their mission was simple: publish fewer books in order to publish quality books. By choosing visual and literary quality over quantity, reading would become an enriched experience. Subsequently, Das Mag endeavours to give authors their fair share by paying them double the customary amount.
Das Mag approached Vruchtvlees to be the visual and strategic motor behind the publishing house. The essence of the briefing centred around how Das Mag could visually communicate it’s radically different approach to publishing. Vruchtvlees’ assignment included crafting a digital visual identity for Das Mag, a crowdfunding campaign and the design of Das Mag’s first three books.
