Intro: De Correspondent is a Dutch-language online journalism platform that focuses on analysis, investigative reporting, background and the kinds of stories that tend to escape the radar of mainstream media. It was launched in September 2013 after raising more than 1.3 Million Euros, from 18,933 backers in just eight days; setting a crowd-funding world record in journalism. In addition to offering high quality content, De Correspondent also aims to contribute, through innovation and experience, to journalism’s ongoing transition into the 21st century. About the infographics: To represent complex information like data or knowledge quickly and clearly, Momkai creates infographics in-house for the Correspondent platform. A selection of which can be found in our entry. The triangular infographics represent the structure of various regimes, and was made for an article by our political correspondent. The network shaped infographics visualise how email can be traced by secret services and the police, therefore showing the relationships of the subject in question. The two other visualisations exhibit a more illustrative style. One was used to complement an article reporting on the number of border walls worldwide and their increase since 1945, while the other visualises national and corporate debt per country. Often the infographics are created to supplement the photographic or illustrative style of an article. Being the creators of De Correspondent’s online platform, Momkai has the opportunity to perfectly align the infographics with the visual identity of De Correspondent, strengthening the brand identity through use of colour and typography.
