Requirements: The Austrian forestry and wood industry presented itself at the Parliament in Vienna on occasion of the International Year of Forests and the Wald & Holz (Forest & Wood) plenary day on 21 September 2011. The requirements were to create an effective visual presentation for the International Year of Forests and bring it to the most important forum for socio-political discourse.
Concept: Treetops were captured in photographs, printed on a transparent net and spanned under the glass roof of the collonaded hall. The light shining through glass roof onto the 270m2 screen created the striking illusion of a woodsy atmosphere. The marble columns of the hall became tree trunks and its ceiling became a roof of leaves. Visitors looked to the heavens and could literally smell the roots and earth. Eight planed boards measuring up to 8.5 meters were mounted to display important information on the value and function of our forests and the wood they give in large lettering. As a complementary offer, a magazine edited by pro Holz Austria was circulated in the colonnaded hall of the historical building built by Theophil Hansen. The 16-page publication was dedicated to the forestry and wood industry, as well as the people who live and work with wood and their thoughts.
