Google Interland

With children’s use of technology rising, parents and educators alike report that they feel obligated to keep their kids safe on the Internet but don’t know enough about topics like phishing and cyber-bullying to start the conversation. This results in critical conversations being avoided altogether. So with a little Google magic, we set out to make lessons in digital safety and citizenship accessible for everyone. We created a robust standards-aligned curriculum for educators, a resource-filled site for families and an adventure-packed game for kids called Interland, which reinforces the lessons in a fun way that doesn’t feel like homework. Be Internet Awesome has been received enthusiastically and has been used by 3.7 million users, who have spent more than 900,000 hours conquering Interland. By opening up channels of communication and making intimidating subjects more approachable, we’re helping parents, teachers, and of course kids be their best selves online.
