Information Path

by Graphic Matters

These 16 posters form a 500m long time line presented in public space of Breda. Each poster shows a historical information graphics highlight. The distance between the posters corresponds with the years between each highlight. This is why the only copy is the year.
Information on each highlight, its creator and its context is published on the backside of each bill board. All designs are by Jan Hamstra. He uses digital collages based on hundreds of lino cuts. The lino cuts are cut by hand. Printed in black, scanned and digitally used for composition. The 16 posters took him almost 3 months of non-stop cutting. Often various sizes of elements were cut to fit the right scale in the composition.
The research for this project was done by Sandra Rendgen, author of the book History of Information Graphics, published by Taschen in 2019.
