Literatuurmuseum (Museum of Literature) is an online museum. This is the place where stories are told about the greatest writers in Dutch history. Based on wonderful archive pieces from the collection of the Literary Museum, visitors can wander through the works and lives of famous Dutch authors such as Remco Campert, W.F. Herman and Charlotte Mutsaers.
The website aims to bring a broad group of people into contact with literature, through the creation of an online literature community. The platform introduces a large network of contemporary writers and creative types to respond to, or work with, the archives of the Literary Museum. Then it’s possible for these people to take in works by contemporary writers, but also to view the work of several international illustrators, animators and film makers.
The Literatuurmuseum is the first museum of its kind. Here the enormous archive of the Literary Museum is presented in a unique way, and put into context. This allows the materials to be used at different levels: lovers of literature can use audio and video excerpts to get to know their favourite writers better; teachers can download educational materials to explore the archive with their students; and years-old notes and sketches can be explored at a scientific level through high resolution scans, down to their very fibre.
