CD cover for a band playing music with a huge amount of guitar funk and hiphop with very conscious texts about modern materialism (desire of things), complexity of the postmodern world and lacking of meaning.
Our approach was to create multiple openings, multiple layers of design to surprise with every opening.
We tried to mix: simple layout with conscious use of symbols to create a design where we have all decisions – including execution of the project – subordinated to achieve our goals to produce a thing which is desirable – white paper and gold icons – and full of tension – black inside (or transparent foil layer) – white outside of the box.
We also created a situation (which conveys to title ”Materialists”) that removing first transparent foil layer leaves You with something missing on the cover, something You had and destroyed when opening – we though it is a funny way to underline the problem of materialism just by packaging (I had and now I do not have).
Print techniques: silkscreen print on transparent foil, gold foil embossing and silkscreen on paper.
Paper used: Arctic Munken Polar
