Perfumers’ Compendium

The Symrise Perfumers’ Compendium is a product handbook for describing and selling fragrances. The target groups are perfumers from the Fine Fragrances, Home Care and Cosmetic Ingredients business units. The Compendium makes it possible to communicate the complex chemical information and relationships in a clear, understandable, attractive and inspiring way, making this reference work unique in its industry.
Technically relevant, complex chemical information doesn’t have to be unattractive and confusing. Quite the opposite – presenting the information in an attractive and clear way encourages people to use the reference work more regularly. This then leads to an increase in the sales numbers for the fragrances presented in it. The abbreviations on the cover, separator pages and product pages are reminiscent of the periodic table of elements.
How are the fragrances visualized? Instead of using stock photos like our competitors, we have developed unique illustrations that resemble watercolor paintings. These represent the characteristics of the corresponding fragrance groups, which have been organized into eleven chapters in the Compendium. The use of uncoated paper, hot foil stamping on the cover and the finest bookbinding finish underscore the high standards of this work. The halved dust jacket allows for the poster to be opened up, offering a visual highlight in the laboratories.
The thread-stitched book with its hardcover is sturdy and lays flat excellently – which is important for daily use. The two-part die-cut index makes navigation significantly easier – as does the integrated ribbon marker. Depending on your search preference, you can find the individual products easily in one of the three different indices. Illustrated introductory pages provide information about the characteristics of the subsequent fragrance groups. The product pages have been designed in a uniform way so that the products can be compared easily.
Perfumers are no less creative people than designers. They are receptive to a Compendium that is just as visually appealing as it is clear and easy to use – one that assists them in their daily work. Its hardcover finish ensures its durability. Its cradle-to-cradle certified paper from Munken isn’t just a haptic highlight – its production has the smallest possible impact on the environment.
