Together with PostNL and Science Center NEMO, SILO has developed the stamp sheetlet ’Discover science’, illustrating five physical experiments that children can easily conduct at home.
By issuing a stamp on the topic of ‘Science and Youth’, PostNL wants to give an additional boost to youth (philately): young people once more come in contact with the post (stamps collection).
Collecting stamps is less and less popular among young people, not least due to the development of science and technology.
It quickly became obvious that the stamp sheetlet should awaken curiosity and work as an activator. SILO conducted research at Science Center NEMO. Based on the results, an idea was developed to turn scientific experiments into little stories. Five physical experiments were selected because they could easily and safely be conducted by children. SILO used the idea of “contrary experience”. In the Science Center NEMO, visitors can perform interactive physical experiments that have another effect than expected.
The stamps are equipped with image recognition technology. By scanning them with the Cee-app on a smartphone or tablet you obtain more information and the experiments can be performed at home step by step.
On July 20th 2015, the stamps were launched at NEMO. Children eagerly conducted the five experiments. The PostNL marketing director Ludo Voorn then officially handed the first stamp sheetlet Discover science to the NEMO director Amito Haarhuis.
The stamps can be purchased in all Bruna shops and via Collect Club. The stamps are also available in the NEMO shop and online via e-nemo.nl/shop. The validity of the stamps is indefinite.
Print run: 137,500 sheetlets.
