Residentie Orkest Corporate identity

A brand new identity for a brand new way of bringing Symphonic music.
The activities associated with a symphonic orchestra: playing in a concerthall for classical music lovers no longer matched with what the ‘Residentie Orkest’ actually does nowadays.
Residentie Orkest is one of the top orchestra’s in the Netherlands. But besides performing symphonic music concerts, the organisation has also developed into an expert in music education, social projects, collaborations with conservatories, governments and the business community over the last few years. Nowadays they also play experimental music, in unexpected and unusual places. And the organisation uses music as a means of drawing attention to social issues and is working on realising some of the UNESCO Social Devellopment Goals. By combining all these new activities and expertise with the existing high-quality musical performances, they can now serve a more diverse audience with a broader, younger, age range.
To do more justice to this ‘new’ Residentie Orkest, and to appeal to the new target groups, a major turn was needed. The organisation had the courage, on the advice of Walvis & Mosmans, to say goodbye to the existing, safe and formal design language that one would naturally associate with that of a symphonic orchestra. Together we started working on a design that strongly depicts the innovation and broad approach of the organisation. Even the word ‘Orkest’ (orchestra in Dutch) has been pushed to the background by using the abbreviation RO. 
The entire design is surprising, creative, free and fun to use. Because of the strong, iconic design of the abbreviation RO, the rest of the design and use of color has the freedom to adapt to subject and specific target group. Walvis & Mosmans and Residentie Orkest believe that with this modern design, we take the RO to the now and do justice to the totally different approach the RO has towards classical music and live up to the new corporate tagline: Muziek kan alles (music can achieve anything!)
