The TENT Academy Awards (TAA) is an annual event organised and hosted by TENT, a contemporary art platform based in Rotterdam. TAA is a festive competition featuring the best graduating audiovisual work from all Dutch art academies. It provides young artists with the opportunity to expose their work to a greater public and contribute to raising the contemporary artistic climate. The nominated works are selected by renowned scouts and assessed by a professional jury. This selection can consist of a wide range of genres such as documentaries, animations, short films and even installation art.
Each year a guest country is invited to compete for the “Best Foreign Film Award’. In 2014 Finland had the honour of joining. The event consists of several cinema screenings, and is accompanied by a public exhibition housed in TENT’s exhibition space. This exhibition continues to travel to various locations in the guest country.
Through TAA, TENT provides the public with a glimpse into the future of the development in our current artistic landscape. At the same time it is an opportunity in which the platform can act as hallmark of artistic quality.
Studio Inherent developed the visual identity for the TENT Academy Awards 2014 which consists of various print communication, product design of the awards and the spatial design of the exhibition. The exhibition design focuses on the relation between the public and art, and the bridge that TENT as institution forms between the two. Visitors are invited to take a seat in a high chair, placing them into a space that they usually cannot enter, and view the nominated films.
