Art galleries are sometimes perceived as being difficult, and uninviting to the general public. This is a shame because art has the potential to be enjoyed by a broad audience.
HYPO is an art supermarket which aims to remove the barrier between the art gallery and its potential public. The HYPO ‘supermarket’ is a multifunctional space which includes an affordable gallery for art and design, a café, and space for workshops and presentations.
The starting point of the design is a visual language which playfully combines the contrasting worlds of art with that of the supermarket. Silo created a series of slogans inspired by advertising punchlines that promote and address art through wordplay. The resulting style is playful, direct, and easily applied to a variety of formats.
