BACKGROUND
WTF.nl is the first Dutch online tabloid  that entertains visitors with remarkable news from the Netherlands and the rest of the world. It contains news and articles that amaze and stories from within the entertainment business you want to share with your social network. The name WTF simply means ‘Wat Tekst en Foto’s’ in Dutch, (Some Text and Images) but also clearly is a wink at the English meaning: What the F*ck. The name states the lightness and nonchalance of the content of the site. Sanoma Media needed a sharp and catchy brand identity for this new to be launched high volume news website that operates alongside the more general news of NU.nl. WTF.nl is focusing on a younger audience looking for fun facts and entertaining news they can share with friends. 
RESULT
The result is a simultaneously popping, stylish and glossy brand identity and web design. The stylish looks and simple user interaction form a counterweight to the sensational (pulp-like) content. The design of the site, with catchy images, draws the visitor directly into the articles. Next to remarkable and entertaining news the site contains a few returning items called the Daily Snacks. These news snacks are returning editorial items containing lists, slideshows and video’s meant to activate the readers to return more often: for example the daily poll, ‘Hot or Not’, Best-of-web Video and picture of the day.  SILO created a dynamic online identity and the complete interactive design of the site. Each section has its own color, image and pattern for recognition and easy navigation. Website and app, available for ipad/iphone/android.
