Valgerður is a designer and educator born in Reykjavík, Iceland, whose work focuses on digital culture, service design, and the critical understanding of how design addresses complex societal needs. With more than fifteen years of experience, she has lived and worked across five countries, developing a broad, comparative perspective on design practice in different cultural and institutional contexts.
Alongside her professional work, Valgerdur has been active in design education, teaching part-time at the Iceland University of the Arts and Hyper Island (Sweden). Her teaching and mentoring emphasise research, dialogue, and the careful framing of problems, encouraging designers to question assumptions and focus on understanding real human needs before proposing solutions.
A significant part of her work has taken place within the public sector. She was involved in long-term projects for the City of Reykjavík, where she led design teams and programmes aimed at modernising public services and introducing design thinking into municipal structures.
